Storefront Creative Design Contest

In partnership with the City of Cambridge, we are thrilled to share the 2023 vacant storefront creative design contest winners at Cambridge Crossing. This program is designed by the Community Development Department and the Cambridge Arts Council to energize and activate neighborhoods with locally made art. Together we are creating spaces that inspire creativity, support local artists, and celebrate the beauty of local talent. Explore the stunning artwork adorning our storefronts located at 144 Morgan Avenue at CX in between the Community Bike Path and Park 151.

Collective Ascension, a Community Staircase Art Mural

Lead by two talented Boston-area artists, Michael Talbot and Phoebe Warner with collaboration from the Community Art Center, a Cambridge-based organization that empowers local youth to use their artistic voices to transform their worlds. Talbot and Warner developed the concept for the mural, incorporating the unique perspectives of the teen artists from the CAC. Their visual and written responses to community-related questions played a significant role in shaping the composition. Stop by the Brian P. Murphy Memorial Staircase to see this inspiring installation for yourself!

The Musical Fence

The Musical Fence, reimagined and created by The Music Pickup Project, is bringing The Common at CX to life through sound! Inspired by Paul Matisse's musical fence installed in front of Cambridge City Hall in 1980, this permanent sound sculpture is a blend of art, science, and community — a combination that's right at home at CX. Don't forget to tag #chimeinatCX and share your pickup music-making!
