With so many amazing places and activities to enjoy around Cambridge Crossing, you don’t have to stray too far to make the most of the holidays and enjoy this winter season! We love being part of a neighborhood that offers so much to do with family and friends, and to make it easier for you, we’ve compiled some recommendations on how you can enjoy East Cambridge during the colder months!
/ Lace up your skates in Kendall Square
Ice skating in Kendall Square has become a favorite pastime for residents and those visiting the area. Don’t have a pair of skates? Don’t worry! Rentals are available.
/ Stay warm with a hot cocoa from 1369 Coffee House
1369 Coffee House has racked up plenty of awards over the years and once you visit, you’ll see why it’s such a local favorite. A short trip from CX, there are plenty of breakfast, lunch and dessert options sure to satisfy your cravings.
/ Catch a film at Landmark’s Kendall Square Cinema
Want to enjoy the neighborhood but stay inside? A movie is a perfect compromise! In addition to the newest Hollywood blockbusters, Landmark’s Kendall Square Cinema is also a great spot for foreign and independent films. Oscars season is right around the corner so get caught up!
/ Indulge in classic comfort food at the newly opened Lily P’s
Lily P’s may have just opened up but they’re already getting rave reviews for their outstanding chicken sandwiches. If that doesn’t do the trick, they also offer $1 oysters from 4-6 PM on weekdays and plenty of other tasty selections. As a bonus, the restaurant is right around the corner from the skating rink so you can package those two for a winning afternoon.
/ Learn how to crochet with the team at Gather Here
Crocheting can be a very soothing activity and a great way to pass the time during colder weather. Plus, friends and family will be wowed when you surprise them with a handmade hat or scarf to keep them warm during the winter months. The shop also offers classes in sewing, knitting and embroidery.
/ Cozy up with a book at Cambridge Public Library
If you need a break from all the holiday travel and shopping, take some time to immerse yourself in a great book. We’re so fortunate to have the O’Connell Branch of the Cambridge Public Library located just a short walk from CX.
/ Taste new wines at Formaggio Kitchen Kendall
There’s always something new and delicious over at Formaggio Kitchen, so head over and treat yourself to their latest offerings of meats, cheeses, wines and appetizers. If you’re looking for a last-minute gift for someone special, Formaggio is a great option but be sure to look through the entire holiday menu – you won’t want to miss anything!
/ Explore the Museum of Science
In addition to countless exhibit halls, the Mugar Omni Theater’s five story domed screen is a great winter activity and a total immersion experience with a rotating series of educational films. Looking for some evening fun? Try a planetarium show that illuminates the music of artists like Drake and Pink Floyd.
/ Grab a scoop or two at Toscanini’s
From cakes to hand-warming lattes to a classic scoop of your favorite ice cream, Toscanini’s is one of the best spots for satisfying your sweet tooth. Toscanini’s is legendary for its unique array of ice cream flavors, all of which are made in store. It has been a Cambridge favorite for decades and a great way to put a “cherry on top” of the holiday season.
